Scammers steal more than money !
Scammers are thieves that steal more than money . They also steal time , steal faith in from good people , and steal integrity away from the honest people ,by planting their seeds of doubt and paranoia in the minds of those that have been scammed or almost scammed .
We have a very alarmingly high percentage of people that contact us that have either been scammed or were almost scammed before contacting us. Its very unfortunate , and it seems to be happening more and more over the last 5 years or so . Its gotten so bad that we have now decided to dedicate an entire page of our website dedicated to this topic .
Then how do we I know that Coon Shadow Maine Coons isnt a scam ?
We will first start by making one thing clear : at Coon Shadow we ( much like I believe most breeders of any breed would agree ) , are not breeders for profit , as there is simply not any money in it at the end of the day . Breeding as raising pure bred animals of any type is simply not profitable .The cost of care , vets , and emergency vet visits on weekends or the middle of the night . Sky rocketing costs for cat food . The litter , toys, blankets , bottles , milk replacer , vaccinations, dewormings , flea prevention , dna testing for all the cats in the program , litter registrations , website fees , importing cats in the program from all across europe and the usa , these are tremendous costs that most people would never even begin to quantify when on the outside looking in .
On top of that there are the countless hours scooping cat boxes , cleaning , raising kittens , grooming , giving medications , bathing , bottle feeding kittens ,making sure each kitten gets enough time feeding , taking endless pictures and videos , carefully tracking the breeding cycles and due dates , strategically planning the breeding combinations , and studying pedigrees. We sometimes go a full year or two without any litters at all .
But when these things are factored in, the reality is that breeding is simply not profitable .
Its something we do as a labor of love ! Its a passion for the breed , and to see the smiles on the faces when the new owners of our kittens see their kittens for the first time .
To receive the pictures of the kittens from their owners as the kittens mature into adults . To see the cats you know and love , and several generations of cats you knew and loved that are no longer alive , but living through the great great grand kittens of those cats ? Now that is where the real pay off is !! Its why we do what we do !
What does that have to do with scamming ? well it has a lot to do with scamming ! Because scammers rob us of the trust that we normally would automatically have between future owners and our cattery ! And that is a shame for both sides . It can cause a lot of undeserved mistrust , so we are very adamant that anyone considering buying a kitten from us read this page BEFORE contacting us . So that way when you contact us , we know and you know that this relationship will start with trust or it wont start at all .
How can I verify that Coon Shadow Maine Coons is legitimate ?
Scammers will not even have a facebook page . If they do ave a facebook page , they will have very little history in their face book ( usually only spanning back a few months }.
* Our facebook history spans back to 2014 . Thats over 11 years of verifiable history . Its impossible to create history on facebook without actually being active for that actual time . You can scroll back on our facebook page to verify this . We are , and always have been a small cattery and sometimes go full seasons without litters . This is evident as well by deep scrolling our facebook posting history also .
By visiting our facebook you can also see that often we have the same backgrounds in our photos with the kittens as well as the photos with their new owners . ( as of spring 2025 our kittens now have our cattery logo in the background of kitten photos , as an extra layer of assurance to future owners that our kittens are in fact our kittens )
On our facebook you can also see many owners of our kittens posting in the comments of our posts , and often these owners share photos of their cats from our cattery ,
These are just a few reference points that are significant irrefutable evidences of our legitimacy .
* ( 2 ) You may also notice that most of our pictures of our cats are taken at the same time with the same background and watermark on the photos .
Scammers use photos of cats with different backgrounds and usually the pictures (if you look closely in the background ) will have construction in European building styles or building materials not found in the USA . This is a blazing red flag !
You may notice that the majority of the pictures of our cats in our cattery are taken on the same snowy day . Those pictures were taken January 11th of 2025 . Snow of that amount is not that common in Southern Indiana , so for several cats to have pictures with the same background , with a verifiable snow day of January 11 , 2025 as the date the pictures were taken would be basically impossible to achieve unless all the cats are in fact the actual cats at the same actual location at the same time . Because they are ; )
Scammers will usually only have one picture of the cats that the present on a site ( usually because they stole the picture from somewhere else and presented the photo as if it was their own ) .
You can visit our gallery here on the website and view many other candid photos of the cats in our program , in other poses from other angles , as well as often times you can see photos of them when they were kittens . You can also view lots of kittens from previous litters , and several of those exact same kittens as they are older . We love it that many of the owners of our kittens stay in continued contact with us and send us updates as they grow up ,
All of these above listed things are solid evidence of our legitimacy , and strong provenance that we are who we are .
